Begin sensor replacement work by turning OFF ignition power before handling the coolant sensor with caution for protecting the fuel control system. Lift the vehicle and guide the cooling system contents out through a drain point below the sensor's location. Start by lowering the vehicle then disconnect the sensor's electrical connection followed by sensor removal. When installing the ECT sensor cover the threads with GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) sealer or an equivalent product. Check all replacement components meet the correct part number specifications and apply thread lockers and lubricants and sealants with care because these substances will affect torque values and operational behavior of components. Position the ECT sensor before final tightening to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). After sensor connection install the required amount of engine coolant.
