2006 Buick LaCrosse Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?
A: The replacement process starts by deleting the HVAC module assembly followed by unbolting the recirculation housing screws to remove it. Disassemble the HVAC module by first removing screws then the mode actuator before proceeding to untighten the TXV bolts from the evaporator core to finally extract the TXV. Begin by discarding all old seal rings and then unscrew the assembly between the upper and lower case of the HVAC module before using a small chisel to remove the heat stakes. To start the evaporator core replacement procedure remove the HVAC module assembly case and remove the evaporator core. System capacity information dictates the oil amount needed when adding new refrigerant oil for installation of a fresh evaporator. Insert the evaporator core inside the HVAC module assembly lower case after applying new side, upper and two lower seals to the core. Screw the upper case to the lower case after drilling through the adjacent dimples with a 5.5 mm (7/32 in) drill bit from the inside of the upper case, then fasten it using 1.5 N.m (13 lb in) screws. Drive new screws into the holes located beside heat stakes while tightening them to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). After reinstalling the mode actuator secure it using screws that need to be tightened to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). Secure the recirculation housing with screws where each fastening should reach torque of 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). After installing new sealing washers on the evaporator core and the TXV you should bolt them in place with fasteners reaching 7 N.m (62 lb in) before reinstalling the HVAC module assembly.
