• Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500?

  A: In order to replace the Crankshaft rear oil seal, one has to remove the Flywheel. Next, place the guide pins from the Crankshaft rear seal puller (J 43320) into the Crankshaft and place the puller on top while aligning over the guide pins. Mounting eight self-drilling sheet metal screws into the rear Crankshaft seal in criss-cross pattern using a suitable drill. These self tapping screws are in the package of the puller. Fit the center bolt of the puller to crack the Crankshaft off unravelling the seal, and then remove the guide pins. Make sure the Crankshaft is intangible to grit, loose rust, or burrs and had to disponibility adjust as required. Apply a very light oil film on the sealing side of the Crankshaft, ensuring that you don't put oil on the sealing side of the block. Mount the seal onto the Crankshaft rear seal installer (J 42849), and align the installer with the Crankshaft and thread attaching screws into the holes tapped into the base. Use a screw driver to tighten the screws securely so that the seal is seated squarely over the Crankshaft then turn the center nut until the installer bottoms out. Lastly, uncase the installer and re-install the Flywheel.
