2006 Chevrolet Corvette Rack And Pinion Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace the Front Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: To replace the Rack And Pinion, first, lift and support the vehicle and afterwards remove the tires and wheels. Remove the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles and intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion. Then, take out the stabilizer shaft, the power steering pressure hose, and the power steering return hose. Take out the power steering line hold-downs from the cross member and bpmv bracket. Remove the two front crossmember mounting nuts and using hand tools only, turn the two rear crossmember mounting nuts loose, but do not remove them (10 mm). Remove the height sensor arm from the Control Arm and hang the front of the crossmember from a utility stand. Use the j 33432-a leaf spring compressor (J 33432-A) to compress the coil spring so that the crossmember can be lowered enough to remove the Rack And Pinion. Unbolt the lower shock mounts, left front brake caliper brake pipe bracket off the cross member, and plastic right front brake pipe hold-down. Remove the mounting bolts and nuts on the Rack And Pinion, and misuse the Rack And Pinion around the brake lines via the left wheelhouse opening. For installation, install the Rack And Pinion into the vehicle through the left wheelhouse opening and tighten its nuts to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) by means of mounting nuts and bolts. Mount the lower shock bolt, raise the crossmember using the utility stand, and remove the j 33432-a. Install all the crossmember mounting nuts and bolts with a hand tool torque to 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs). Reattach the brake pipe bracket, left front brake caliper to the crossmember, the plastic brake pipe hold-down right front brake pipe, and brake bpmv bracket. Join the power steering pressure hose to the Rack And Pinion and snug the fittings to 27 nm (20 ft. Lb) with the Rack And Pinion intact towards the power steering return hose equally snug the fittings 27 nm (20 ft. Lb). Attach power steering hold-downs to crossmember, stabilizer shaft to crossmember and reconnect intermediate shaft to Rack And Pinion. Connect the height sensor arm to the Control Arm, the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles, and replace tires and wheels. Decrease the vehicle, bleed the power steering system, and toe in front wheel.
