2006 Chevrolet Malibu Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End on 2006 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Lift and support the car first, and then take off the tire and wheel. Remove the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle by loosening and taking off the jam nut and discarding the nut. Don't try to free the ball stud with a pickle fork or wedge tool, since this can harm the seal or bushing. With the tie rod separator (J 24319-B), pry the tie rod off the Steering Knuckle, then take off the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod. Look over the inner tie rod threads and make sure they are neat and not dirty before you install the outer tie rod onto the inner tie rod and connect it to the Steering Knuckle. Make sure the ball stud doesn't move while you put on the new torque prevailing nut and tighten it to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). The last step is to install the wheel and tire, and align the front toe.
