2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How is the Crankshaft Position Sensor System Variation Learn Performed After Engine Repairs on 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Ckp system variation learn procedure is required after the engine replacement, replace Engine Control Module (ECM), replace Crankshaft damper, replace Crankshaft, replace ckp sensor or any replacement of engine component that causes disturbance crank to ckp sensor correlation irrespective whether dtc p0315 is set or not. A scan tool must be plugged into monitor the activity of certain component signals such like ckp sensor activity, camshaft position (CMP) signal activity, and engine coolant temperature (ECT). If the ect is not warm enough, let the engine idle until it attains the right temperature. Start with monitoring the ecm for dtcs. If any other dtcs are set other than p0315 see applicable dtc list. Next, choose the ckp system variation learn procedure in the scan tool and watch the fuel cut off for the appropriate engine. Block the drive wheels, pull the emergency brake, place the transmission into park or neutral, turn a/c off and cycle ignition off to on, press and hold Brake Pedal during the steps. Pump and stop the engine, and then synchronize to wide open throttle (WOT) without going beyond the calibrated fco (fuel cut-off) rpm value. Breake out of the incident immediately if exceeded value of the throttle and again when fuel cut-off occurs. While the learn procedure, release throttle immediately as the engine decelerates and let the control of the engine return to the operator. The status will be indicated by the scan tool as learn status: learned this ignition; learned this ignition; if dtc p0315 ran & passed, then the ckp variation learn is complete. In case dtc p0315 failed or did not execute, check the dtc p0315 and if any other dtcs have been enabled, check the applicable dtc list. Lastly, turn off the ignition for 30 seconds after successfully performing the learn procedure.
