2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace the Parking Brake Cable on the Right Side (JD9) on 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Start by releasing the park brake then disabling the automatic adjuster of the park brake cable before changing the right side parking brake rear cable (JD9). After vehicle elevation support the right park brake cable by untethering it from the intermediate cable equalizer bar. Release the right park brake cable from its frame bracket by deactivating the locking tabs and drawing the cable conduit backward and then remove the cable from the rear axle housing cover clip. Users should first remove the park brake cable clip bolt then they should release the park brake cable from the rear axle bracket by pulling the cable conduit rearward while compressing its locking tabs. Pull the park brake actuator lever to disconnect its eye from the cable and remove the complete cable assembly from the vehicle. Install the right park brake cable eye to the park brake actuator lever after which the park brake cable must be installed into the rear axle bracket by pulling the cable conduit rearward and confirming the locking tabs completely lock into place. Attach the park brake cable clip bolt and tighten it to 22 N.m (16 lb ft). The park brake cable should connect to the rear axle housing cover clip before linking the right rear park brake cable to the intermediate cable equalizer bar. Both the frame bracket and the automatic adjuster function properly after you insert the park brake cable conduit through the bracket and lock the tabs before activation. The end of this task involves adjusting the park brake to meet necessary specifications.
