2008 Chevrolet HHR Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Fuel Rail in a Fuel Injection System on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The replacement starts with disconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector and then removing the Intake Manifold. Steps for replacing the Fuel Rail assembly include reducing high pressure fuel system pressure along with detaching the engine wiring harness connector from the high pressure Fuel Pump then removing the intermediate fuel pipe. First disconnect the Fuel Injector wiring harness electrical connectors from their positions on the fuel injectors before you remove the Fuel Rail bolts while being aware that fuel injectors may detach with the Fuel Rail. Reinstall all fuel injectors along with the Fuel Rail whenever they are removed together. Inspection of the plastic spacer requires removal of the Fuel Injector upper o-ring seal accompanied by checks for damage which lead to spacer removal. The process of replacing the Fuel Rail includes sensor removal from the Fuel Rail as well as removal of the Fuel Injector wiring harness. To install the new Fuel Rail system users must apply lubrication to its threads and sealing cone and the sensor with gm p/n 12345610 (Canadian P/N 993193) or equivalent commercial engine oil. The installation of the fuel injection Fuel Rail Fuel Pressure Sensor requires a 33 n.m (25 lb ft) torque specification before connecting the Fuel Injector wiring harness. The process involves installing a new spacer when needed while you apply engine oil for lubricating the engine oil ring seal of the new Fuel Injector before installing it. Begin Fuel Rail installation by tightening the bolts located at the outside first before completing the two inner bolts which will also be tightened by hand. The Fuel Injector wiring harness electrical connectors receive attachment to fuel injectors followed by specification-based bolt sequencing where initial torque reaches 22 n.m (16 lb ft) before reaching final torque at the same value. The installation process includes placing the intermediate fuel pipe and connecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the high pressure Fuel Pump before putting on the Fuel Injector insulator and the Intake Manifold. The conclusion of this installation involves joining engine wiring harness electrical connector to the Fuel Injector wiring harness electrical connector while checking for leaks through ignition tests. Place low side fuel pressure service port cap and secure the fuel fill cap before mounting the air cleaner assembly.
