2008 Chevrolet Uplander Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the fuel tank module on a long wheelbase on 2008 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: The necessary tools for replacing a long wheelbase vehicle Fuel Tank module start with a fuel sender lock nut wrench (J 45722). Begin by removing the Fuel Tank while maintaining all efforts to avoid holding the fuel sender assembly near the fuel pipes to protect the joint areas. You should disconnect the Fuel Tank harness electrical connectors from the Fuel Tank module before cleaning all fuel pipe and hose connections to stop contamination. The module receives its fuel supply through the disconnect procedure of the quick connect fittings for both the fuel feed pipe and evaporative emission (EVAP) pipe. Operators should unlock the fuel sender lock ring by using the fuel sender lock nut wrench (J 45722) with a long breaker-bar while rotating it counterclockwise and draining fuel into a suitable container. Cut the module and seal from the Fuel Tank where you need to discard the original module seal while cleaning both surfaces for reinstallation. The lock ring requires an inspection for damage along with warpage which leads to a necessary replacement. Position the new Fuel Tank module seal correctly while keeping the Fuel Pump Strainer both untwisted and unfolded. After installing the Fuel Tank module into its place you should either install or replace the lock ring and tighten it using the fuel sender lock nut wrench (J 45722) to a clockwise position. The last step includes reconnection of the evap quick connect fittings and the fuel feed pipe quick connect fitting to the module followed by mounting the Fuel Tank harness electrical connectors before reinstalling the Fuel Tank.
