• Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2008 GMC Canyon?

  A: In order to replace the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, partially empty the cooling system to a level below the ect sensor. Break the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the ect sensor electrical connector and remove the ect sensor electrical connector from the camshaft cover with prefection to stay away from ruining the coolant sensor as it would affect the fuel control system. With the help of the ect-sensor-socket (J 45861), carefully remove the ect sensor from the Cylinder Head. In case of installing the original or a new sensor without the sealant, apply thread sealer gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent, and then install the ect sensor into the Cylinder Head with hand. Apply the ect sensor socket (J 45861) and apply 14n.m (10 lb ft) on ect sensor. Connect ect sensor electrical connector to camshaft cover and reconnect engine wiring harness electrical connector to ect sensor electrical connector. Finally, refill the cooling system.
