Q: How to replace the TPMS Sensor on 2009 Cadillac STS?
A: Maintenance of the Tire Pressure Indicator Sensor begins by elevating the vehicle on a proper support system. Take out the tire/wheel assembly from the vehicle. Set the sensor's cap and valve on a clean area prior to tire removal because both components are aluminum and nickel-plated to combat corrosion but you should not swap them with any other materials. For tire bead separation position the bead breaking fixture directly across the valve stem and make sure the mounting/dismounting head allows placement of tire iron or pry bar with a slight right-angle orientation to the sensor body. Apply the tire machine to rotate the tire/wheel assembly in a clockwise direction while moving the tire bead outward from the wheel rim wall then repeat the process for the inside bead. You should remove all tire sealant residue from inside surfaces of the wheel. Discard the tire pressure sensor nut then take out the sensor. Install the sensor by first removing dirt from the grommet sealing area then position the sensor into the wheel hole with air passage facing outward using components that have the correct part number. Tighten the sensor nut to 7 Nm (62 lb in) while the sensor body maintains an alignment parallel with the inside wheel surface. Positively orient the mounting tool 180 degrees from the valve stem and then make a 45-degree counterclockwise angle between the valve stem and the bead transition area before performing a clockwise wheel rotation to push each tire bead into the wheel rim. Perform this step for both inner and outer beads. Users should install the tire onto its wheel while understanding that sent sensors come in OFF mode requiring machine rotation above 32 km/h (20 mph) for at least 10 seconds for activation. Finish by putting the tire/wheel assembly on the vehicle while lowering the vehicle and learning the tire pressure sensors.
