2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Initial steps before installing a new Fuel Rail assembly start with releasing fuel system pressure through suitable method. You need to detach the air cleaner outlet duct during your next step. You should disconnect the fuel line quick connect fitting from the rail assembly before capping fuel feed lines and Fuel Rail to stop unwanted contamination. The engine harness electrical connector should be removed from the Fuel Injector harness and its connector clip taken off the Intake Manifold. Remove the electrical connector from the MAP Sensor on the engine harness. Unscrew the Fuel Rail bolts while monitoring the Fuel Injector electrical connector terminals and spray tips then slide the Fuel Rail backward and upward to extract the fuel injectors from the cylinder head ports so you can remove the Fuel Rail. The process requires Fuel Injector removal when required while new lower o-rings need installation for reused injectors followed by lubricating the injector tip o-rings before reinstalling. Insert each Fuel Injector downward through the cylinder head ports before carefully pushing it into position. Then install Fuel Rail bolts which must be tightened to 10 nm (89 lb in). First connect the engine harness electrical connector to MAP Sensor and to the Fuel Injector harness before you attach the Fuel Injector harness connector clip onto the Intake Manifold. Return the caps or plugs to the fuel line and Fuel Rail and join the fuel feed line quick connect fitting to the Fuel Rail. Reconnect the negative Battery Cable. A simple fuel leak check starts by turning the ignition for 2 seconds while the engine remains off followed by stopping ignition for 10 seconds and another ignition cycle for leak inspection. The final step involves installing the air cleaner outlet duct into its correct position.
