- Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on 2009 Chevrolet Malibu?A: Start by removing the Drive Belt from the A/C Compressor then secure the vehicle using a lift. Remove the lower air deflector while paying attention to extract three adjustable dowels from component j 37872 and install three 5/16 x 1 inch bolts. When removing the compressor clutch plate you should first discard the bolt and then use (J 37872) to hold the plate in place while you finish your removal work. First apply (J 6083) to remove the compressor pulley snap ring then handle both the pulley and its coil snap ring before taking the clutch coil off. Prepare the clutch plate bolt threads by cleaning them with an m6x1.0 tap followed by compressed air blowout of debris. Use (J 6083) tools to install compressor clutch coil and snap ring then install compressor pulley and its snap ring. Apply oil to the 0.4 mm (0.016 in) air gap shim before placing it in the clutch drive plate's interior. Then install the clutch plate while checking no part touches the pulley. Use shims to achieve an optimal air gap between 0.3 and 0.6 millimeters (0.012 to 0.024 inches) between the pulley and drive plate. Fitting the clutch drive plate bolt requires adhesive repair on 5 colored threads before installation while tightening with (J 37872) to achieve an 12 nm torque (106 lb in). Complete installation involves placing the lower air deflector followed by lowering the vehicle before securing the Drive Belt to the A/C Compressor. Test all fittings for leaks by using (J 39400-A).
