2009 GMC Envoy Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on a 4.2L engine on 2009 GMC Envoy?
A: To replace the negative battery cable on a 4.2L engine you have to start by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Next, turn off the engine by disconnecting its wiring harness electrical connector from the generator Battery control module. Disconnect the negative cable ground terminal bolt at the left wheelhouse panel, then remove the negative cable ground terminal from the left wheelhouse panel. Next, you need to remove the negative battery cable ground terminal bolt off the shock tower and the negative battery cable ground terminal off the shock tower as well as the negative battery cable clip from the shock tower. Lift the negative battery cable severed to the ground post bolt from the engine block and the ground post from the engine block. With the help of a knife, cut the tape that had been sticking on the conduit and pull off the negative battery cable. For installation, unhook negative cable from the battery before hooking the engine harness ground terminal to the engine block and instrument panel harness and engine harness to the powertrain control module. Connect the negative battery cable and re-tape the conduit back onto the negative battery cable, and anchor the negative battery cable ground to the engine block. Fasten down the negative battery cable ground terminal bolt, to the engine block, with 50 Nm (37 lb ft). Following that, install the negative battery cable ground terminal to the shock tower having the anti-rotation tab to the hole in the shock tower and install the negative battery cable ground terminal bolt to the shock tower tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb in). Mount the negative battery cable ground terminal to the left wheelhouse panel making sure the anti-rotation tab goes-through the hole in the wheelhouse panel, install the negative battery cable ground terminal bolt to the left wheelhouse panel and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in). Finally, install the negative battery cable clip to the shock tower and the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the generator battery control module, and connect the negative battery cable.
