The first step to install a Shift Knob starts by lifting the rear part of the shift control closeout boot retaining ring until it detaches from the console. You need to make a sturdy hold of the shift control knob before attempting to remove it from the shift lever as it needs strong upward force. The next step requires removal of the combination consisting of shift control closeout boot and knob assembly. When installing the shift control closeout boot you must position it on the shift lever before using sufficient pressure on the Shift Knob to lock it to the shift lever. The front sections of the shift control closeout boot retaining ring need to be inserted into the console while the rear section needs to be pushed downwards. Conclude attachment of the shift control closeout boot retaining ring to the console by gently pulling on it.
