  • Q: How to replace the front disc brake pads on 2010 Cadillac SRX?
    A: Before replacing front brake pads check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. The vehicle stays safe even if no fluid needs to be drained when the level measures at the midway mark. Lift the vehicle and take off its tire and wheel combination from the ground. Hold one end of the c-clamp against the outer Brake Pad and the back of the brake caliper body then tighten slowly to push brake pistons into their caliper housings. Apply hand tools only when fitting or removing guide pins and maintain the caliper guide pin in place using an open-end wrench without allowing any contact between the tool and brake caliper to prevent brake pulsation during usage. Put heavy mechanic wire under the brake caliper during all hydraulic flexible brake hose connections before separating it from its mounting bracket. Rest the caliper on one hand and use a Brake Pad spreader to press new wood blocks against it. This positions the caliper pistons inside the bore before Brake Pad removal. Take out both brake pads including their upper and lower springs and discard the springs when replacing brake pads. Set new Brake Pad springs upper and lower into position followed by inner and outer brake pads. Then rotate brake caliper correctly to its place. Use a back up wrench to immobilize the brake caliper guide pin and thread in the guide pin bolt. Tighten it to 60 nm (44 lb ft). Use the brake pedal from zero to two thirds of its range after installing the wheel rear tire. Repeat this process slowly until the brake caliper pistons and brake pads correctly position themselves when you have turned off the engine. Complete the task by adding brake fluid to the master cylinder reservoir and by giving the brake pads and rotors a roughing process.
