• Q: How to replace the front disc brake pads on 2009 Cadillac SRX?

  A: The first step to replace front disc brake pads is checking brake master cylinder reservoir fluid. If fluid sits at a level above the midpoint between maximum and minimum marks, drain to the midpoint line. Lift the vehicle and detach the tire and wheel unit from its assembly. Place one end of the large c-clamp behind the brake caliper and the other on the outboard Brake Pad before turning the tool until the two brake caliper pistons compress far enough to shift past the brake rotor. With wrench support, remove the caliper guide pin to remove the bolt that secures the brake caliper. Keep the caliper stable with mechanics wire to protect the hydraulic brake hose. Push up the brake caliper after fixing it in place and take out the brake pads from their bracket before inspecting the retaining system. Look at both caliper guide pins and bolts for harm or wear and replace them when needed while examining guide pin boots for damage and changing them if found faulty. To make sure the guide pin seat quality you need to push the caliper away from the installation position. Also replace the brake piston boot when it shows wear. Place a large c-clamp on top of the brake caliper body and tight it when the pistons are compressed using either an old Brake Pad or wood block. Put the Brake Pad retainer and new brake pads in place on the caliper bracket after you take out the c-clamp and its fixture. Put down the brake caliper and position it onto the brake pads until the lower caliper pin bolt threads are in sight. Apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 to 2/3 of the bolt length before tightening it to 34 nm (25 lb ft). Leave the threadlocker to set for ten minutes before coating the front brake guide pin with niglube(R) gm product 18046532 grease. Thread in the lower brake caliper pin bolt until it reaches 34 nm of torque (25 lb ft). Install the tire and wheel assembly back onto the vehicle. Lower the vehicle and put on the brakes when the engine is off through pressing the brake pedal 2/3 of its total distance. Slowly release the brake afterward. Apply this brake pedal test until you feel resistance and top up the brake reservoir to the right mark while running the brake system.
