- Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on 2009 Cadillac SRX?A: Inspect the brake master cylinder fluid level before replacing the front brake caliper. Drain fluid until the master cylinder reservoir marks the middle between maximum and minimum fluid limits. Lift the vehicle and place support stands under it. Take out the tire with the wheel assembly. Apply a large c-clamp onto the brake caliper which forces the piston into the bore so the caliper can be slid over the rotor for removal. Shield fluid leaks by plugging both openings of the brake hose before unscrewing its bolt to release the hose from the caliper. After removing the two soaked gaskets use new copper gaskets when you connect the new caliper hose. Unbolt the brake caliper pin before taking the caliper unit away from its bracket. Check the guide pin boots inside the caliper for damage and put in new ones when required. Place the new brake caliper on the bracket and verify that the rubber guide pin boots fully fit inside their channels. Apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) on 2/3 of each lower caliper bracket bolt thread-length after cleaning the threads. Leave it to cure for about 10 minutes before proceeding. Put brake caliper pin bolts through silicone brake lubricant before placing them and tightening to 25 lb ft (34 Nm). Add the brake hose to the caliper bolt then fasten it to 50 nm (37 lb ft). Install fresh copper brake hose gaskets and reattach the brake caliper's hose. With the engine off start applying the Brake Pedal to 2/3 of its reach slowly let go and repeat until you have a solid brake reaction. Put back on the tire and wheel components before descending the vehicle.
