- Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on 2008 Cadillac SRX?A: Check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir first; if it sits at the mid-point between maximum and minimum marks no fluid needs to be removed but you must drain some fluid if the level is too high. Lift the vehicle and take away the tire with the wheel. Clamp down a large c-clamp onto the brake caliper to push its piston into the chamber and make room for it to pass through the brake rotor before taking off the c-clamp. You need to take out the bolt holding the brake hose to caliper connection. Also discard the copper gaskets while plugging the hose ends to avoid fluid leakage. Take out the brake caliper pin bolts then detach the caliper from its bracket. Place the new caliper correctly by matching the guide pin boots to their seating points. Check if caliper guide pin boots need replacement because of damage. Put the caliper on its bracket while making sure the threads match and apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) on 2/3 of the lower caliper bracket bolt threads for ten minutes before installation. Performs high-temp silicone brake lubrication on the brake caliper pin bolts before torquing them to 34 n.m (25 lb ft) during assembly. Insert the brake caliper and hose pins then put on copper brake hose gaskets. Secure the brake hose to the caliper using a bolt you must tighten to 37 lb ft (50 N.m). Release hydraulic brake pressure by step-pedaling the brake pedal to 2/3 depth and releasing it several times until you get a solid brake feedback. Place the wheel and tire back onto the vehicle and let it back down normally.
