- Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on 2007 Cadillac SRX?A: Before replacing the front brake caliper look at the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Then drain the reservoir to reach its midpoint when the fluid mark is higher than the mid-marker. Lift the vehicle securely and take out the tire and wheel unit. Apply a large C-clamp to the brake caliper tightly until the piston transfers into the brake rotor and remove the tool afterward. Undo the brake hose from the caliper bolt before taking out the brake hose and getting rid of the 2 copper brake hose gaskets that may be adhered to the caliper or hose. Close all access points on the caliper and hose to protect brake fluid from leaking out. After removing the caliper pin bolts you can unmount the caliper from its bracket location. During installation you need to make sure guide pin boots properly insert into place. Check the boot condition and replace it when there is damage. Clean both caliper pin bolt threads and bracket holes with denatured alcohol before putting threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) on 2/3 of the bolt length. Let the threadlocker cure for 10 minutes. Use high-temperature silicone brake lubricant on the brake caliper pin bolts before installing them tightly at 34 N.m (25 lb ft). Insert new copper brake hose gaskets into the caliper and hose ports and attach the brake hose while tightening the bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft). Open the bleeding valve after depressing the brake pedal for 2/3 of its possible distance with the engine turned off and let the pressure slowly release. Keep pushing the brake pedal twice each 15-second period until you sense it has become stable. Put back the tire and wheel together before lowering the vehicle.
