- Q: What Tools Are Required to Service and Repair Rear Brake Calipers on 2006 Cadillac SRX?A: Repairing and servicing the rear brake caliper requires the following instruments: the necessary tools for this task consist of universal driver (J 8092) and caliper boot seal installer (J 46275). Universal driver (J 8092) and caliper boot seal installer (J 46275). Detach the brake caliper from the vehicle first. Place clean cloths inside the caliper housing as you remove the pistons while using low-pressure compressed air into the brake fluid inlet hole. Use either a small wooden or plastic tool to remove the Piston dust boot seal and Piston seal then dispose of them. To proceed with bleeder valve replacement you should first take off the brake caliper bleeder valve cap together with the valve itself. Brake caliper mounting bracket requires inspection for corrosion and wear conditions so it needs replacement if necessary. Wipe down the Brake Caliper Piston bore and seal counter-bore using denatured alcohol and dry them with filtered non-lubricated air. The caliper assembly needs replacement when you find any of these defects: cracks, scoring, pitting or severe corrosion on the caliper bore or Piston. Assemble the brake caliper bleeder valve by tightening it to 14 nm (124 inch lbs.)you should install the bleeder valve cap after tightening the bleeder valve to 14 nm (124 inch lbs.). Lubricate the new Piston seal by applying delco supreme ii gm p/n 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667) or an equivalent dot-3 brake fluid then position it into the caliper bore seal groove without twisting it. Before installing the caliper Piston into the brake caliper bore and its surrounding area apply brake fluid for lubrication. Finish the installation by placing the new Piston dust boot seal over the Piston before applying the j 8092 and j 46275 to push the dust boot seal fully into the caliper groove. Follow this process and reinstall the caliper onto its original vehicle position.
