- Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2006 Cadillac SRX?A: Before changing the front brake pads you need to check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Drain fluid if the level reaches above the halfway point between maximum and minimum scales. Lift your vehicle and detach the tire wheel unit after that. Set a large c-clamp on top of the caliper pistons to push them into the bores until the caliper passes through the brake rotor and take out the c-clamp. Twist the brake caliper lower pin bolt slowly using a wrench while you hold the guide pin steady with another tool. Keep the caliper from moving with heavy wire to protect the flexible brake hose. Look at the brake pads by taking them out for inspection of the holders. Examine whether the caliper guide pin boot fits correctly and evaluate the guide pins and boots for problems with replacement where needed. Position and tighten a large c-clamp to push brake pistons fully of the caliper. Following removal of the clamp install new brake pads alongside existing Brake Pad retainers. Lower the caliper into its bracket while making sure threads on the bottom-pin are clean. When ready apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canada P/N 10953488) to two-thirds of the pin components for future protection. Apply niglube® gm p/n 18046532 grease onto front brake caliper guide pin before the threadlocker chemistry has fully set. Secure the lower brake caliper pin bolt by tightening it to 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.). Put back the tire and wheel system while lowering the car and apply one-third of Brake Pedal movement before releasing it slowly. Open the reservoir and let the brake fluid flow into the system for 15 seconds before repeating the process until the pedal becomes firm. After that, bring the fluid level to its recommended range and let the brakes work on turning components.
