- Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2005 Cadillac SRX?A: Check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before work. If the fluid sits between the marked lines nothing needs to be removed. Using jack stands properly raise the vehicle then take off the wheel by disconnecting tire and wheel. Set the large c-clamp tool onto the caliper body with feet against both ends of the caliper. Apply enough pressure to push the piston until it moves past the rotor. Rotate the lower brake caliper pin bolt loose using a wrench as you hold its guide pin. Rest the caliper against mechanic's wire during maintenance to stop hydraulic hose pressure and turn the caliper upwards to remove the brake pads and retainers. Check brake caliper guide pin bolts and pins for defects and corrosion then replace them. Also examine guide pin seals and piston boot wear signs before making new parts. Press the c-clamp onto both sides of the caliper and place its ends against a wood block. The piston will expand completely when you press the clamp. Afterward, remove the clamp and the wood block. Install both pads and retainers into place while aligning the sensor from the inner pad to the backmost position. Use a clean cloth to wipe denatured alcohol on the lower caliper pin bolt threading and bracket holes. Put gm thread locker 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) on the bottom two-thirds of the bolt threads. After ten minutes apply high-temperature silicone lube to the front brake caliper guide pin and tighten the lower brake caliper pin bolt to 60 nm using gm threadlocker. Return the tire and wheel assembly to their position then lower the vehicle before slowly pushing the brake pedal two-thirds of its range and releasing it slowly. Brake the pedal three times in 15-second intervals to reach firm pressure then fill up the brake system and let the system heal at intervals.
