How to replace the rear axle shaft on 2010 GMC Savana 1500?

The first step to change a rear Axle Shaft requires vehicle elevation then tire and wheel removal. Brake caliper mounting bracket comes next followed by the rear axle housing cover and its gasket. Start by removing the pinion shaft locking bolt. When working with axles without locking differentials you must remove the pinion shaft. When working on locking differentials withdraw the shaft by some distance then turn the case so the pinion shaft touches the housing. Start by rotating the c-lock with a screwdriver-like tool until it sits directly against the thrust block. Continue by pushing the Axle Shaft flange toward the differential to remove the c-lock while keeping the shaft from rotating to prevent its alignment from shifting. Installation of the c-lock requires users with locking differentials to partially withdraw the pinion shaft before positioning the c-lock evenly with the thrust block then extending the shaft flange to securely position the c-lock. Guide the pinion shaft's hole toward the differential case bolt opening then use a new locking bolt to screw into position at 36 nm (27 lb ft) torque for 8.6 inch axles or 50 nm (37 lb ft) torque for 9.5ld inch axles. Begin installation with the rear axle housing cover and gasket before moving onto the brake caliper mounting bracket and tire and wheel assembly. After filling the rear axle properly use the vehicle lift to lower it down.
