Buick LaCrosse Air Bag Clockspring Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on Buick LaCrosse?
A: You must disable the sir system before beginning the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable removal process. Begin by removing steering column trim covers after which separate the wire harness assembly from its strap before removing all wire harness straps from the assembly. Start by removing the wire harness strap from the upper tilt head assembly before you detach both the sir steering wheel module coil retaining clip and sir steering wheel module coil. The steering column upper shaft requires wave washer removal. Before torque application check that all fasteners sit properly while aligning the block tooth on the upper shaft to the 12 o'clock position. Set the wave washer onto the steering column upper shaft but maintain the sir steering wheel module coil in the exact center for two reasons: separating the steering column from the gear or pushing down the centering spring can both lead to coil uncentering. First align the sir steering wheel module coil to the horn tower section of the turn signal cancel cam before placing the pre-centered coil module onto the steering column upper shaft. Pull on the wire from the lower coil assembly with care until all kinks in the assembly are cleared. Do this step to prevent any shaft lock interference from occurring. Throw away the centering tab afterward. Lock the sir steering wheel module coil retaining ring by ensuring complete placement of the ring within the upper shaft's groove. Place the wire harness assembly by the steering column tilt head and apply a wire strap through the tilt head assembly hole before mounting the wire harness straps onto the wire harness assembly. Put the steering column trim covers back in place before activating the sir system.
