Buick Park Avenue Parking Assist Distance Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear Parking Assist Distance Sensor on Buick Park Avenue?
A: Replacing the rear object sensor starts with taking off the rear bumper fascia while unconnecting the electrical connector from the sensor. The rear object sensor becomes accessible after raising its housing locking tabs and removing the part. Push the spring down to extract it from the housing followed by opening the housing tabs so you can pull out the rear object sensor. You must use the bezel to pass through the fascia in order to remove it. It is essential to apply new paint on the rear object sensor while avoiding the refinishing of previous painted sensors to prevent failure and measure the paint layer using a suitable paint thickness gauge for non-ferrous metals that does not go beyond 6 mils. Fitting the rear object sensor bezel requires you to push its ring until it reaches fascia level then line up the keyhole with the key before pushing the bezel into the fascia. Install the housing into the bezel by placing it from the inside of the rear fascia then press until complete sealing occurs. The housing requires the spring installation with specific attention to position the spring keys on top and bottom sides of the housing structure. Connect the decoupling ring to the sensor before putting the sensor into the housing by placing its connector toward the passenger side while allowing the sensor tabs to enter the housing cutouts. The electrical connector must be attached to the rear object sensor while reinstalling the rear bumper fascia.
