Begin the shift knob replacement by accessing the shift knob trim ring at the bottom of the knob using a flat bladed tool and rotating it clockwise to detach it. First use three turns of counter-clockwise rotation on the shift knob retaining screw before pulling the shift knob directly upwards from the shift knob shaft. The shift knob must be completely attached to the shift knob shaft followed by application of the shift knob retaining screw if it was unbolted earlier at 2 Nm (18 inch lbs. torque). Install the shift knob trim ring to the shift knob as the final step.
