Chevrolet Aveo Timing Belt Idler Pulley Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Timing Belt Idler Pulley on Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The repair process of a Timing Belt Idler Pulley requires users to start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by disconnecting the intake air temperature sensor connector and extracting the air intake tube attached to the Throttle Body and the breather tube from the valve cover. Begin by removing bolts from the air filter housing then taking out the air filter housing followed by the right front wheel and splash shield. The next operational stage includes removing the accessory Drive Belt combined with the Crankshaft Pulley bolt and the Crankshaft Pulley itself. Begin by unbolting the timing belt covers situated at both the upper and lower front part. The procedure includes removal of Power Steering Pump mounting bolts when this component is equipped. You must reinstall the Crankshaft Pulley bolt before using it to rotate the crankshaft at least once clockwise during installation. Lend the large scale gear alignment to the front timing belt cover base notch and ensure the camshaft gear readings match each other. Prevent over-tightening of coolant pump retaining bolts while you turn the pump clockwise with the timing belt adjuster (J 42492-A) until the adjust arm pointer matches the timing belt automatic tensioner bracket notch. Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts before rotating the crankshaft two full clockwise turns followed by further loosening of the bolts once again. Apply the timing belt adjuster (J 42492-A) to turn the coolant pump until the pointer on the adjust arm matches the indicator on the timing belt automatic tensioner bracket and secure the coolant pump retaining bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Install the upper and lower front timing belt covers while adding their bolts which must be tightened to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The Crankshaft Pulley gets bolted along with its pulley following wrench torque application to 95 n.m (70 lb ft). Subsequently an angle meter (J 45059) or angular torque gage (KM-470-B) should be utilized to apply additional 30 degrees with 15 degrees of Crankshaft Pulley bolt torque. Reinstallation of the accessory Drive Belt must be completed first before installing the right front wheel along with air filter housing and its bolts secured to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Finally, connect the air intake tube to the Throttle Body, the breather tube to the valve cover and the iat sensor connector then attach the negative Battery Cable.
