Chevrolet Equinox Brake Proportioning Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Proportioning Valve on Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Start the replacement work by making sure the brake fluid does not harm sensitive parts before you handle the proportioning valve. Lift off the transmission control module along with its bracket from the strut tower then set it on top of the engine for safekeeping. Place a shop towel under the brake valve system to prevent brake fluid from escaping. Before untethering the brake lines make sure you remember where they are positioned for proper installation. Seal the ends of the brake lines that come out of the proportioning valve assembly while you disconnect them from the Wheel Cylinders and calipers. Then unplug the brake tubes from the master cylinder while plugging or capping their tips. Plug all entry points on the proportioning valve before reusing it. Gently pull out the proportioning valve through its mounting bolts without damaging the brake lines. Mount the new proportioning valve assembly to the vehicle and fasten it using the bracket mounting bolts which should reach a torque setting of 12 nm. Connect master cylinder brake pipes to their fittings. Fasten the connections using torque of 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Follow these steps once more with the brake caliper and Wheel Cylinder lines while making sure all their fittings achieve the same torque of 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Dispose of the shop towel as recommended and put back the tcm system with its bracket in place while executing the final brake system hydraulic bleed procedure.
