Brake Pad are among the vital parts whose significance can be felt in Chevrolet S10 cars because they are aimed at stopping the car through building friction with the rotating brake rotors. These pads consist of metals and synthetic materials to enable the pads to work well at high temperatures, which range to about 400 degrees Fahrenheit in normal functioning. The Brake Pads have steel backing plates to which friction material is applied which in turn transfers to the rotor to produce the required amount of friction for braking. Different categories of Brake Pads are Non Asoptimalos, Semi Metallic, Full Metallic and Ceramic brake pads and each of these brake pads has its characteristics such as frictional co-efficient, wear and tear rate and level of noise produced. Brake Pads must be replaced after every 50,000 miles and proper maintenance of the brake system always help in efficient the functioning of brakes. The Brake hardware items such as clips springs and shims are very crucial for the efficiency of Brake Pad, quiet operation and even wear of the Brake Pads, in this way the Brake Pad is optimized and has a longer life span.

Chevrolet S10 Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on Chevrolet S10?
    A:
Before replacing the rear brake pads check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. When the level is at or near the middle mark between max and min values no fluid need be removed but when the level surpasses that point use a brake fluid extractor to bring the fluid down. Lift the vehicle and take off the tire wheel unit. Secure the c-clamp on top of the brake caliper housing over the backside of the outboard pad. Gradually build pressure until the piston reaches the caliper bore then remove the clamp. After detaching the brake caliper assembly from its mounting bracket clean both the brake pads and parts with denatured alcohol followed by drying them using filtered non-lubricated compressed air. Check the brake caliper for any issues after taking off the rear brake pads and anti/rattle spring pair along with springs from both mounting blocked and the brake caliper. Replace the old anti/rattle springs and install the new brake pads along with new anti/rattle springs onto the mounting bracket. Connect the brake caliper anti/rattle spring then reinstall the brake caliper unit on its mounting bracket. Bring down your car and refill the Brake Master Cylinder to the right amount. Depress the Brake Pedal from rest gradually until it reaches 2/3 of its total range then lift up slowly. Press the Brake Pedal twice for 15 seconds to push the brake caliper pistons correctly into place. Finally, burnish the new brake pads.
