Chevrolet Silverado 1500 A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser on Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: The replacement process starts with a recovery of refrigerant from the system. First disconnect the radiator support bolts from the rear of the upper radiator support and then the radiator support bracket bolts . Sever the condenser from the compressor discharge hose assembly by first removing this assembly bolt. To start the replacement process disconnect the evaporator tube from the condenser by removing its nut. Start by unbolting the insulator retainers followed by removing the upper insulator retainers before extracting the condenser from the car. During the installation process of the new condenser you must fill in refrigerant oil. After installation according to the fastener notice, install the upper insulator retainers before securing their bolts with 2.4 N.m (21 lb in) torque. Mount the evaporator tube to the condenser by installing new sealing washers then hand-tighten the evaporator tube nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft). Tighten the compressor discharge hose nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft) after connecting this hose to the condenser through new sealing washers. Bolt the lower bracket of the hood latch support holder before tightening it to 9 N.m (80 lb in). Install the radiator support after reaching the bolts located at the back of the upper radiator support then secure them with 16 N.m nut (12 lb ft). Finish this step by installing both radiator support bracket bolts and fascia hardware. The system evacuation follows system recharge and technicians should conduct fittings leak detection with J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector.
