Chevrolet Silverado 3500 A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser on Chevrolet Silverado 3500?
A: Start by recovering the refrigerant before you begin condenser replacement. Locate the grille and tie bar to radiator brace bolts by entering from behind the upper radiator support to access them. Start by removing the lower hood latch support bracket bolts and continue with the compressor discharge hose assembly bolt from the condenser then disconnect the compressor discharge hose assembly from the condenser. Separate the evaporator tube nut before removing the evaporator tube from the condenser. Start by uninstalling the vehicle condenser through the removal of upper insulator retainers together with the insulator retainer bolts. Before installing the new condenser add appropriate amounts of refrigerant oil to its component parts. Following condenser installation the mechanic should secure the upper insulator retainers and insulator retainer bolts with 2.4 N.m (21 lb in) torque. The evaporator tube installation requires new sealing washers before connecting it to the condenser using an evaporator tube nut attached with a torque of 16 N.m (12 lb ft). The compressor discharge hose receives new sealing washers before attachment to the condenser at a torque setting of 16 N.m (12 lb ft). Start by installing the hood latch support bracket's lower bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in) torque and moving onto the installation of the tie bar to radiator brace bolts through the rear of the upper radiator support to finish at 9 N.m (80 lb in). After system reinstallation the technician must evacuate and recharge the air conditioning system while conducting a fitting leak check using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
