Service the exhaust system when it has reached a safe temperature to prevent burns. Penetrating oil should be applied to bolt threads in case of resistance. Climb the vehicle before you begin to support the Muffler assembly. You must detach the 3 nuts between the Muffler assembly and Catalytic Converter assembly. The Muffler assembly becomes easier to remove after applying rubber lubricant gm p/n 12345884 to the rubber hangers and separating the assembly from its hanger brackets at the front, rear, and tailpipe location. Inspect the exhaust system for correct alignment before tightening sequence starts with all bolts or nuts installed loosely until alignment is achieved then follow with rear-to-front tightening. Exhaust system alignment remains optimal only when you replace all worn-down hangers, brackets, and clamps. When installing new exhaust system components use oem replacement parts and replace the tailpipe with each new Muffler installation and begin every connection with new nuts while using a wire brush to clean the manifold stud threads beforehand. If you use rubber lubricant gm p/n 12345884 you must reapply it before mounting the Muffler assembly into the car and attaching it to the tailpipe hanger, rear hanger, and front hanger. Secure the Muffler assembly to the Catalytic Converter assembly by using the 3 nuts which require 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) torque.
