  • Q: How to replace the front sway bar bushing on GMC Safari?
A: Raising the vehicle is the first step to replace sway bar bushings. First disconnect the Idler Arms from the frame by removing the bolts which hold down the Idler Arm to mounting position while shifting the steering linkage to reach the sway bar bracket retaining bolts. First remove the left-hand sway bar bracket mounting bolt with its nut followed by the right-hand mounting bolts then remove the sway bar brackets. A pry bar should be used to lower the sway bar before taking off sway bar bushings from it. To install the sway bar reduce its height using a pry bar and place the sway bar bushings on the shaft with the slit positioned forward. Put the sway bar brackets on the bushings before fastening them with right-hand mounting bolts in accordance with the fastener notice in service precautions. Begin by mounting the left-hand bolt followed by securing its nut while all bolts and nut attain a torque rating of 55 nm (41 ft. Lbs.). After securing the frame-mounted idler arms with the mounting bolts set to 105 nm (77ft. Lbs.), you may lower the vehicle.
