The j-34028 (Inner Tie Rod Wrench) helps to remove the inner Tie Rod from the vehicle after removing the Rack and Pinion Boot to check for corrosion or contamination; continue with the repair when no issues are present. Permite the gear to rest in a vise but avoid any changes to steering gear preload adjustment since this action can harm pinion and steering gear components. The shock dampener of the inner Tie Rod assembly should be moved off the rack before replacing it. Apply a pipe wrench to the rack area adjacent to the inner Tie Rod housing but use a wrench on its flats to turn the part counterclockwise before separation. Duplicating this method applies to the inner Tie Rod housing and inner Tie Rod while cleaning all thread residues with old loctite(R) when applicable. The rack should accept the shock dampener so that it moves forward before applying loctite(R) 262 or equivalent to the inner Tie Rod threads when needed for cleanliness. Tighten the rack-mounting inner Tie Rod with a pipe wrench along with a torque wrench until it reaches 100 nm (74 lb ft). A 0.25 mm gage should pass tests the stake points of the rack and housing on the female inner Tie Rod assembly so they remain properly aligned. You should place the shock dampener onto the inner Tie Rod housing and let it reach the maximum point before you reattach the Rack and Pinion Boot.
