GMC Sierra 3500 Canister Purge Valves Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the canister purge valves on GMC Sierra 3500?
    A:
The first step to replace an EVAPORATIVE EMISSION (EVAP) CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID VALVE requires removal of the engine sight shield. Connectors for both electrical power supply and the EVAP purge tube should be disconnected from the purge solenoid valve on the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve. The disconnect procedure for the EVAP purge tube connector starts by shifting the retaining tab to unlock and then separating the connection points. Begin by removing the EVAP canister purge valve bolt which is then followed by extracting the EVAP canister purge valve in its entirety. The EVAP canister purge valve requires installation according to the Fastener Notice found in Service Precautions. The installer must place the EVAP canister purge valve bolt correctly before torquing it to 10 N.m (89 lb in). The EVAP purge tube needs to be connected to the purge solenoid after which electrical connection must be established for the EVAP canister purge valve. Reinstall the engine sight shield as the last step.
