The CV Joint in GMC Terrain vehicles is an important part whereby effective power is transmitted from the transmission system to the drive wheels steadily. Such joints are used in the front-wheel-drive vehicles and updated models of rear-wheel drive vehicles with independent suspension. Some of the CV Joints used in Terrain vehicles are Rzeppa joints at the outboard end of the axle while on the inboard end a tripod joint and double offset joints areused. These are the angular joints and they help to produce changes in the length of the shaft required during suspension movement. Thus, it is advisable to constantly monitor the state of rubber boots containing the CV Joints, as such boots are the primary cause of failure. It can be said that timely maintenance determines the durability and performance of the CV Joints in GMC Terrain vehicles.

GMC Terrain CV Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front outer CV Boot and CV Joint of the drive shaft on GMC Terrain?
    A:
In order to replace the outer joint and boot of the front wheel drive shaft, remove the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle and attach the drive Axle Shaft in a soft jawed vice making sure you don't cut through the inboard or outboard boot because it may damage sealing surface and give premature wear. Remove the boot clamp from the constant velocity (CV) joint and the boot , using a flat-bladed tool, then use side cutters to remove and dispose of the boot clamp from the boot and the wheel drive shaft , adding new clamps. Next break open the wood block and hammer the cv joint from the wheel drive shaft and also remove the boot from the wheel drive shaft. Check outers cv-joint for damages and wear. Place the boot on the wheel drive shaft making sure that it is seated properly into the groove of the wheel drive shaft . Fill around half the lubricant into the boot of the cv joint and half into the cv joint, and then attach the cv to the wheel drive shaft on the use of the wooden block and hammer. Mount boot clamp on the boot and wheel drive shaft , then boot clamp on the boot and the cv joint housing and align it appropriately around the whole circumference of the boot. Using j 35910 -pliers: close the clamp until the gap is 2.15 mm (0.85 in) and close the boot clamp using ch 48894 -pliers. Pull the wheel drive shaft off the bench vise and rotate the cv joint in circular motion about 4 to 5 times before flipping the wheel drive shaft back in to the car.
