    Q:
How to replace the Shift Cable for the Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever (Column Shift) on Buick Lucerne? Posted by Customer
    A:
The procedure for Shift Cable (Column Shift) replacement starts with engaging the park brake then using wheel chocks. Complete the retainer lift from where it rests on the transaxle shift cable system before disconnecting the transaxle shift cable endpoint from the manual shift lever pin. The left closeout/insulator panel along with the transaxle shift cable must be removed after pressing the locking tabs to release the cable from its bracket. The installer should first extract the retaining clip from the shift cable and subsequently disconnect both the cable connected to the column control lever and to the steering column bracket. Then feed the shift cable through its established opening in the cowl. The installation process requires the shift cable to pass properly through the engine compartment and through the cowl to attach it with the steering column bracket. Fasten the cable by inserting its retaining clip and then attach it to the column control lever before replacing the left IP closeout panel. Install the transaxle shift cable inside the bracket while connecting its terminal to the transaxle manual shift lever pin. The installer should conclude with entering the retainer into the transaxle shift cable mechanism followed by necessary adjustments of the shift cable.
