    Q:
How to replace the shift cable on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is essential to position the vehicle in park mode before lifting and supporting it to replace the Shift Cable. Resistance should not be applied to the cable boot. A flat bladed tool should be used to disconnect the Shift Cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud by separating the Shift Cable end from the range selector lever. Detach the retainer from the Shift Cable and press its locking tabs to break free from the bracket. Press the cable grommet through the floor panel until it reaches the bottom before dropping the car. Dismantle the left hinge pillar trim and raise the driver's side carpet to reach the Shift Cable before disconnecting its retainer from the dash panel. A flat bladed tool inserted between the cable end and the lever can separate the end from the ball stud of the transmission range selector lever. First separate the retainer from the Shift Cable. Afterwards push the locking tabs on the retainer toward each other to let it detach itself from the steering column bracket. Extract the Shift Cable from the entire vehicle body. The procedure begins by passing the Shift Cable downward through the floor panel until it seats properly within the cable grommet. The installation process continues by guiding the cable through the dash mat to connect its retainer at the lower dash panel. Lay the Shift Cable into the steering column bracket while installing the retainer onto the cable itself. To conclude the installation put the cable end onto the range selector lever ball stud and check if it is secure followed by carpet repositioning and testing the pedal motion. You should raise and support the vehicle before installing the left hinge pillar trim panel and then you must mount the Shift Cable on the bracket followed by attaching the retainer to the cable. When a new cable replacement occurs you should first discard the primary lockout pin and then adjust the automatic transmission Shift Cable before the vehicle descent.

    Q:
How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process for Shift Cable starts by putting the vehicle in park position and raising and supporting the car. Pulling force should never be applied to the cable boot. You should free the Shift Cable from its attachment to the transmission lever ball stud with a flat bladed tool that pushes away from the lever in between the end of the cable and the lever. First slide out the retainer from the Shift Cable while pushing down the locking tabs to free from its bracket. Lift the floor panel while pushing the cable grommet upward through its opening. Lower the vehicle afterwards. To reach the Shift Cable you should first remove the left hinge panel trim and then lift up the driver side carpet toward the ceiling. Use a flat blade tool to detach the Shift Cable retainer at both its locations: first from the lower dash panel and later from the transmission shift lever ball stud. After pulling off the retainer from the Shift Cable's end remove the locking tabs from each side of the steering column bracket. Pull the cable away from the vehicle. Installation requires the Shift Cable to pass down through the floor panel before seating the cable grommet. The cable should then be routed through the dash mat while attaching the Shift Cable retainer to the lower dash panel. Connect the Shift Cable through the steering column bracket while setting the retainer onto the Shift Cable. After connecting the Shift Cable end to the shift lever ball stud you should reposition the driver-side carpet and check the accelerator pedal area for free motion. Following the installation of the left hinge pillar trim panel, use a hoist to lift and support the car while performing the Shift Cable installation process at the bracket position. Finally, attach the retainer on the cable before completing the procedures. The primary lock lockout pin must be discarded when installing a new cable for which Shift Cable adjustment needs to be performed before vehicle lowering.
