    Q:
How to replace the shift cable for 2.9L and 3.7L engines on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process of the shift cable requires 2.9L and 3.7L engines to be parked while raising and supporting the vehicle. The boot area of the cable should not be exposed to any pulling forces. A flat bladed tool should be used to disconnect the shift cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud by inserting the tool between both components. You should first remove the retainer from the cable then push its locking tabs inward to free it from the bracket. Make an opening into the floor panel by pushing the cable grommet upward then lower the vehicle. Next remove the left hinge pillar trim and pull up the carpet to reach the cable while you disconnect its retainer which is anchored to the lower dash panel. Use a flat blade to disconnect the shift cable which is attached to the transmission range selector lever ball stud by prying the cable end off. Free the cable through the retainer by pulling its locking tabs before you remove it from the steering column bracket. Finally, remove the cable from the vehicle. New shift cable installation requires workers to push it downward through the floor panel before seating the grommet and guiding the cable through the dash mat while attaching the retainer to the lower dash panel. Connect the cable toward the steering column bracket while anchoring the retainer onto the cable. The cable end must be installed onto the range selector lever ball stud while you reposition the driver's side carpet followed by checking the area beneath the accelerator pedal to verify it moves freely. You should install the left hinge pillar trim panel before raising and supporting the vehicle again to install the shift cable on the bracket followed by the cable retainer. The primary lock lockout pin should be removed when installing a new cable after which you must adjust the automatic transmission shift cable before lifting the vehicle down.

    Q:
How to replace the Shift Cable for the range selector lever on 2.9L and 3.7L engines on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Helping the assembly process for the shift cable for vehicles with 2.9L or 3.7L engines requires placement in park position before vehicle elevation and support. When working with the cable boot do not use any force against it. Detach the shift cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud by inserting a flat bladed tool between the cable end and lever to disconnect them. Push the cable locking tabs toward the inside to liberate the bracket retainer so it can be removed from the cable. The technician can insert the cable grommet through the floor panel while lowering the vehicle. First remove the left hinge pillar trim panel and then pull up the driver's side carpet to access the cable before you disconnect the shift cable retainer from the lower dash panel. A flat bladed tool must separate the cable end from the lever ball stud by inserting it between the cable end and lever stud so you can pry the cable end away from the lever. Release the cable retainer by removing its retaining retainer. Afterward push the locking tabs inside of the steering column bracket to free it up then detach the cable from the vehicle. To install the shift cable start by passing it down through the floor panel before setting the grommet and guiding the cable through the dash mat to connect the retainer to the lower dash panel. Connect the cable toward the steering column bracket followed by attaching the retainer to the cable. The cable end should be secured to the ball stud of the range selector lever while the driver's side carpet can be moved into position before checking under the accelerator pedal for proper movement. After raising and supporting the vehicle again you should install the left hinge pillar trim panel before putting the shift cable onto the bracket and placing the retainer on the cable. When installing a new cable on the shift function first remove the original primary lockout pin, then perform automatic transmission cable adjustment before the vehicle lowering.
