Torsion Bar, Front Driver Side

Start by elevating your vehicle before continuing. The Torsion Bar unloading/loading tool (J 36202) can then be installed on the Torsion Bar adjuster arm to gradually increase arm tension while using the same tool. Record the adjustment bolt's removal number of turns before removing it together with its retaining nut. Remove the j 36202 from the adjuster arm to proceed with the installation. Move the Torsion Bar forward to disconnect the adjustment arm and then reposition the bar backward half through the crossmember. Mark the front of the bar with l for left and r for right and lower the front end of the Torsion Bar into place. Lower the front Torsion Bar end before moving it toward the middle. To begin installation you must first install the Torsion Bar followed by lubricating its adjuster arm and bolt with axle grease before adding the Torsion Bar adjuster arm. Place the adjustment bolt along with the retaining nut then use the j 36202 tool to tighten the Torsion Bar. Fit the j 36202 onto the adjuster arm before putting the adjustment bolt to the notated position. Use j 36202 to reduce Torsion Bar tension until the adjustment bolt takes the load and remove j 36202. Lower the vehicle while checking the z height.

The servicing procedure for torsion bars begins by raising the vehicle to necessary height. Begin by removing both adjustment assemblies from the torsion bar and note down the bolt adjustment position. The Torsion Bar Unloading/Loading Tool (J 36202) require users to increase adjustment arm tension so they can detach the adjustment bolt and retaining nut before relocating the tool to a different position. To remove the torsion bar adjustment arm start by moving the torsion bar forward then detach the adjustment arm. Mark L for left and R for right on the front ends of the torsion bars so you identify the distinct bars for each side. Slide the torsion bars partway back through the crossmember before continuing. Place the dropped front end of the torsion bar down before moving it forward. During installation remember to indicate L or R on the torsion bar front end. Apply axle grease to all torsion bar elements before installing the components. First add grease to both the adjuster bolts and adjuster arms. When the adjuster arm installation is complete it must maintain a 1.0-2.0 mm (0.04-0.10 inch) gap between its rear side and the rear side of the torsion bar. Utilize the Torsion Bar Unloading/Loading Tool (J 36202) to create tension on the torsion bar when you install the adjustment retaining nut and adjustment bolt. Install the retaining nut and adjustment bolt before setting the adjustment bolt to its marked position and releasing tension only when the bolt absorbs the full load torque. Lower the vehicle after removing the Torsion Bar Unloading/Loading Tool (J 36202) to verify Z height measurement.

The J 36202 Torsion Bar Unloading/Loading Tool (J 36202) is needed to service and repair the torsion bar. Start by lifting the vehicle and placing the J 36202 to the torsion bar adjuster arm. Increase tension on the adjustment arm with the J 36202 and take off the adjustment bolt and retaining nut noting the number of turns required to remove it. When taking the J 36202 away from the adjuster arm, slide the torsion bar on and pull out the adjustment arm and take a note of the L and R markings at the front of the torsion bar as one bar is used on a different side. Lower the front end of the torsion bar and push it to the front. For installation, it should use a correct torsion bar, lubricate adjuster arm and bolt with axle grease, and place the torsion bar adjuster arm. Set the adjustment bolt and retaining nut then use J 36202 to adjust the tension on the torsion bar. Mount the J 36202 to the adjuster arm and lock the adjustment bolt at the setting that had previously been noted. Release tension on the torsion bar with the J 36202 let the load be taken up by the adjustment bolt then remove J 36202. Finally, adjust the vehicle down and check Z height.
