    Q:
How to replace the upper control arm bushings on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
First obtain these essential tools before upper Control Arm Bushing replacement: Control Arm Bushing receiver (J 21474-5), upper Control Arm nut (J 21474-18) along with upper Control Arm screw (J 21474-19) and half moon spacer (J 39872) and upper Control Arm Bushing receiver/installer (J 39930). The replacement of upper Control Arm bushings requires these components: Control Arm Bushing receiver (J 21474-5), upper Control Arm nut (J 21474-18), upper Control Arm screw (J 21474-19), half moon spacer (J 39872) along with upper Control Arm Bushing receiver/installer (J 39930). Start by uninstalling the upper Control Arm along with all its mounting bolts and screws and nuts until the front upper Control Arm becomes separate from the upper Control Arm support. Thread j 21474-19 through j 39930 so the three tangs of j 39930 sit opposite the screw head before passing it through the upper Control Arm Bushing. Position the thrust washer on j 21474-19 by placing its seams against j 21474-5 then attach j 21474-5 to j 21474-19. Before assembly position j 39872 around the bushing to protect the metal structure and ensure j 39930 and j 21474-5 align properly then install j 21474-18 on j 21474-19. Complete removal of the bushing occurs when you tighten j 21474-19 and j 21474-18. To begin assembly keep the Control Arm in a vise before threading j 21474-19 through j 39930 with tangs facing away. Install a new bushing onto j 21474-19 before insertion into the upper Control Arm through its outer opening. To keep j 21474-5 safe install it inside then secure thrust washer on j 21474-19 so its seam points at the bushing and stabilize with j 39872 to reduce distortion. Complete the installation by putting j 21474-18 onto j 21474-19 then tighten until both components reach flat surface. Thread the front upper Control Arm back to its support then lock it into position using bolts and screws and nuts before tightening all fasteners to 98 nm (72 ft. Lbs.). Follow by reinstalling the upper Control Arm.
