    Q:
How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before compressor clutch assembly replacement start with compressor vehicle removal. First use the Clutch Holding Tool (J 45267) to secure the disk and hub assembly before removing the retaining nut that connects the disk and hub assembly to the compressor. The spacer along with the snap ring should be taken off the pulley. A Three Jaw Puller (J 25031-A) should be used to remove the A/C Clutch Pulley from the compressor. Start by uninstalling the thermal switch through removing its hold down bracket bolt followed by bracket removal then use a small screwdriver to carefully pull the switch from the compressor. First disassemble field coil snap ring then extract the A/C clutch field coil. Clean both the A/C clutch field coil and pulley mounting surfaces before installing the A/C clutch field coil and field coil snap ring while positioning the bevel side outward. Follow these steps to install the thermal switch: Begin with cleaning the thermal switch pocket and applying sealant before slipping the switch into position then install the hold down bracket and bolt and finish with a 6 N.m (53 lb in) torque setting. The Clutch Pulley Installer tool (J 45504) assists in installing clutch bearing/pulley assemblies by guiding their placement over the hub and provides a gentle tap to help installation while ensuring easy sliding-on. The snap ring must go into the pulley with its rounded side facing away from the unit before the spacer gets added. Install the disk/hub assembly onto the shaft by aligning its block tooth into the shaft's groove while making sure the assembly fits the compressor properly. Use a feeler gauge to measure the disk/hub assembly-pulley clearance while checking that readings fall between 0.35 mm to 0.75 mm (0.014 in to 0.030 in). Use a feeler gauge to check the disk-hub assembly clearance against the pulley. Add or remove clutch hub spacers as needed to reach the proper clearance before installing a new clutch nut with a final torque of 26 N.m (19 lb ft). The compressor gets reinstalled to the vehicle after the repair work concludes.
