Seat belt system inspections along with repairs should become necessary after a collision because safety depends on it. Any seatbelt system involved in a severe enough collision to activate passive safety systems needs to receive full replacement of the entire system. Vehicle security systems intended for adult passengers together with restraint systems for children must be tested as well as the LATCH system and top tether anchorages for child passenger restraints. A seat belt replacement should be performed on every single system part including adult restraints and built-in child safety devices in conjunction with LATCH system elements. The seat belt system needs replacement when "REPLACE" or "CAUTION" words appear along with yellow tags yet replacing the system should not be based solely on visible child seat caution labels. Any hesitation about the state of your seat belt system should trigger the need for replacement. The complete seat belt system must be replaced using all necessary parts such as the buckle and guide and retractor assembly with new latch and webbing material instead of isolated component replacement. Replacement of the seat belt system is not needed for minor crashes but you must replace it when mechanical parts show signs of damage. Predicted seat belt retractor pretensioners should be checked for deployment after every crash by pulling seat belt webbing; retractor replacement becomes necessary if you hear a grinding or rattling sound during this test.

First, use a small flat-bladed tool to depress the button on the seat buckle quick disconnect while pulling up on the shoulder belt to disengage it from the front seat assembly.

Install the seat belt webbing bezel, tightening the rear seat belt center bezel screws to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in).
