Post-accident it becomes necessary to check seat belts for damage before implementing repairs for driver safety purposes. The seat belt system requires replacement if users activated it during an auto collision that caused air bag or seat belt pretensioner deployment. All security systems for adults and children require replacement as well as those securing child restraints and infant carriers and booster seats through LATCH system and top tether anchorages. The replacement procedure applies to all seat belt components including those used by adults and integrated child restraints as well as parts of the LATCH system. When the word REPLACE or CAUTION shows up along with a yellow tag attached to the seat belt system then it needs replacement although a child seat warning label by itself does not warrant replacement. A seat belt system replacement must happen when the condition remains uncertain. The complete set of seat belt components must be replaced which includes buckles along with guides and retractor assemblies along with all latch and webbing material instead of single elements. The seat belt system does not need replacement following minor collisions as long as the components show no signs of tearing or wearing or damage.

Connect the retractor to the bracket and install the bolt to the rear seat retractor-side belt, tightening it to 42 N.m (31 lb ft).

First, remove the retractor trim cover.
