    Q:
How to replace a two-piece drive shaft on Chevrolet Tracker? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace the two-piece propeller shaft involves raising and supporting the vehicle. Divide the pinion flange yoke and differential pinion flange for future reference. Detach the 4 bolts alongside 4 nuts with lock washers followed by removal of the mid shaft bearing support bolts. The transmission needs its sliding yoke and two-piece propeller shaft assembly to be detached first. Look for damage or dents on the shaft before replacing it with a new one. Run a smoothness test on the universal joints; tight or restricted motion requires that you install new units after assembly. Sliding yoke splines which show signs of serious wear or damage need replacement before a new sliding yoke can be used. The sliding yoke needs replacement if its surface has scoring, burrs or any other type of damage. The inspection of pinion flange yoke includes a comprehensive assessment for damage and any form of cracking or distortion and requires replacing the component if any faults are detected. When installing the sliding yoke into the transmission it should have a two-piece propeller shaft assembly along with lubricated splines. Place the mid shaft bearing support at a 90-degree angle with the propeller shaft center lines before installing its bolts with a torque value of 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). The differential pinion flange and pinion flange yoke should be linked via reference marks followed by tightener bolts and nuts and lock washers at a torque of 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.
