    Q:
How to replace a front coil springs and shock absorber on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
The shock absorber replacement starts with supporting the vehicle after raising it while removing the wheel and tire. The shock module needs to be separated from the vehicle before placing it inside the spring compressor. Mark all components of the upper Control Arm assembly along with the insulator so you can easily reinstall them while the shock absorber freely moves with a compressed spring. The spring compressor forcing screw requires turning until the coil spring becomes compressed, and then the shock absorber upper retaining nut can be removed before extracting the shock absorber from the shock module. Mildly untighten the spring compressor forcing screw before removing the upper mounting plate and coil spring followed by the upper Control Arm bracket assembly and insulator from the compressor tool. Install the shock absorber lower mounting holes exclusively when the upper Control Arm bracket alignment pins face 90 degrees perpendicular. Introduce the coil spring into the spring compressor together with the insulator followed by the upper Control Arm bracket assembly and shock absorber while maintaining the alignment of all disassembly marks. Bend the coil spring once more using the spring compressor forcing screw until the shock absorber retaining nut reaches 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Finishing the procedure involves removing the shock module from the spring compressor to reinstall it on the vehicle and finally install the tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle.
