    Q:
How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on Buick Enclave? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to service and repair the suspension strut, open your collections, to begin with, the necessary tools: strut rod nut socket ( J 42991) and strut spring compressor (J 45400). First, detach the strut from the car and mount it in strut spring compressor (J 45400). Push down on the coil spring using a spring compressor forcing screw until it is trapped by the compressor jaws. It is advisable using a 45 torx(R) socket grip the strut shaft while you remove the upper strut mount nut using the strut rod nut socket (J 42991). After removing the strut from the compressor, remove the forcing screw (grasp it with a wrench), then disconnect the upper strut mount and coil spring. For assembly, remove the coil spring and the upper strut mount from the struts spring compressor (J 45400) and compress its spring again. Brake and top strut mount, and fit the strut loosely into place using strut retaining nut. Using the 45 torx(R) socket, hold the strut shaft and tighten the upper strut mount nut using the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) to 85 nm (63 lb ft). Lastly, take the strut out of the strut spring compressor (J 45400) and fit it into the vehicle.

    Q:
How to properly dispose of a Shock Absorber on GMC Acadia? Posted by Customer
    A:
An individual must wear protective eyewear before disposing of the suspension shock/strut by drilling because metal chips may cause injuries. Position the strut horizontally in a vise when you clamp it while keeping the rod in its full extended position. Use a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit to make a hole directly through the end cap's center so gas or a mix of gas and oil can escape. Shop towels act as a containment system for the oil during the process. Lower the drill-bit-strut-combination from the vise while disposing it in the drain pan with the drilled hole pointing downwards. The rod must now be used to move into and out of the tube so the strut can drain all its oil.
