    Q:
How to Perform an Alternator Replacement on Chevrolet S10? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by removing the Drive Belt. Before removal begin by uninstalling the heater hose brace bolt from the generator then detach the generator mounting bolts. Remove the generator from its bracket while disconnecting the generator electrical connector. Remove the generator output (BAT) terminal retaining nut by unthreading it from the generator. Tighten the generator output (BAT) terminal wire while making sure its insulating boot covers the nut before achieving a torque of 17 n.m (12 lb ft). First properly secure the generator with mounting bolts at 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque while installing the generator back onto its mounting bracket and connecting the generator electrical connector. After connecting the Drive Belt, install the negative Battery Cable, then tighten the generator bolt to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) before attaching the heater hose bracket to its position.

Reinstall the generator onto its mounting bracket before connecting its electrical components then install the generator back on the bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Install the heater hose bracket bolt onto the generator then apply torque to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). After installation of the Drive Belt complete the procedure by reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
