    Q:
How to replace the shift knob on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process to switch the Shift Knob begins with removing the Center Console followed by sliding down the shift shaft trim to detach it from the shift assembly shaft. To carry out the Shift Knob replacement start with the setscrew removal then lift the knob off while disconnecting the electrical connector and removing the wiring harness from the retaining tabs of the assembly. The Shift Knob assembly needs to be removed together with the trim before detaching the wiring from the trim. The new Shift Knob wiring should be threaded through the trim before installing the knob and trim together as a unit. Mount the wiring harness into its retaining tabs before you attach the electrical connector and apply loctite(r) 242 thread locking compound (GM P/N 12345382) or a similar alternative compound to the setscrew after cleaning it with a wire brush. Fix the Shift Knob onto the control shaft using the setscrew where torque must reach 2.5 nm (22 inch lbs.). Install the shift shaft trim so it snaps into place on the knob's lower section then restore the Center Console.
